Also known as: GSH, L-Glutathione, Reduced Glutathione
Glutathione is the body's most abundant endogenous antioxidant, a tripeptide composed of glutamate, cysteine, and glycine. It plays a critical role in neutralizing free radicals, detoxifying xenobiotics, and supporting immune function.
Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide thiol present in virtually every cell of the body, with the highest concentrations found in the liver. It serves as the master intracellular antioxidant, directly scavenging reactive oxygen species and regenerating other antioxidants such as vitamins C and E. Beyond antioxidant defense, glutathione is essential for phase II detoxification in the liver, where it conjugates with toxins for safe excretion. Oral bioavailability of standard glutathione is limited due to enzymatic degradation in the gut, leading to the development of liposomal and acetylated (S-acetyl) forms with improved absorption. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is often used as an alternative precursor to raise glutathione levels endogenously.
Glutathione directly neutralizes reactive oxygen species and regenerates vitamins C and E, providing a multi-layered defense against oxidative stress and cellular damage.
Glutathione is essential for phase II hepatic conjugation reactions, enabling the body to safely excrete drugs, heavy metals, and environmental toxins.
Adequate glutathione levels are necessary for optimal lymphocyte proliferation and natural killer cell activity, supporting innate and adaptive immunity.
On an empty stomach or with a light meal
Liposomal form recommended for improved oral bioavailability.
Split into two doses, morning and evening
Higher doses are better tolerated in liposomal or S-acetyl form.
Maximum oral absorption
Stable oral form with intracellular delivery
