Shilajit is a tar-like resinous substance found in high-altitude mountain rocks, formed over centuries from decomposed plant material. It is rich in fulvic acid and over 80 trace minerals and has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years to promote vitality and longevity.
Shilajit is a natural exudate found predominantly in the Himalayan, Altai, and Caucasus mountain ranges, formed over centuries by the gradual decomposition of plant matter compressed between rock layers. Its primary bioactive component is fulvic acid, which accounts for 60–80% of its composition, along with dibenzo-alpha-pyrones (DBPs), trace minerals, and humic substances. Research suggests that shilajit enhances mitochondrial function by facilitating electron transport in the mitochondrial chain, which may explain its traditional reputation as a rejuvenating tonic. Clinical studies have demonstrated improvements in testosterone levels in healthy men, enhanced exercise performance, and antioxidant capacity.
